How to Hire a Maid in Singapore

Hiring a domestic helper for the first time can feel complicated. Here is how the process works with Suria Employment Agency, a MOM-licensed agency in Bugis since 2002.

Step by step

1. Decide what you need: housework, cooking, infant care or elderly care.
2. Choose between a fresh helper from Indonesia or a transfer helper already in Singapore.
3. Shortlist and interview helpers from our maid list or with our consultants.
4. We apply for the work permit and arrange the medical check-up and insurance.
5. Your helper starts, with free replacements included in every package.

What it costs

Transfer or fresh helper?

A transfer helper already works in Singapore, so you can interview her in person and she can usually start sooner. A fresh helper comes from Indonesia and can be trained to your routine from day one.

Before you apply

• You must be at least 21 years old and have the mental capacity to employ a helper
• First-time employers attend the Employers' Orientation Programme
• Make sure you can provide suitable lodging, food and at least one rest day a month that cannot be compensated

How long it takes

A transfer helper already in Singapore can often start within one to two weeks, once the work permit is issued and she has passed her medical check-up. A fresh helper from Indonesia usually takes longer because of her travel documents and flight.
